Nave’s Neighbor of the Month: Ricky’s Fund Inc.

This May, we are honored to spotlight Ricky’s Fund Inc. as our featured Nave’s Neighbor—an organization that exemplifies compassion, advocacy, and the transformative power of dance. Created to honor the life and legacy of Ricky Christiansen, a devoted dance father, uncle, and brother, Ricky’s Fund is on a mission to combat the devastating impact of fentanyl-related overdoses and to uplift young dancers in meaningful, lasting ways.

In July 2023, Ricky’s life was tragically cut short by a fentanyl-laced substance. His passing brought to light a painful and urgent reality: fentanyl-related overdoses are now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45. In the face of this crisis, Ricky’s family and loved ones chose to channel their grief into action. Through Ricky’s Fund, they aim to shatter the stigma surrounding overdose deaths and raise awareness about the importance of mental health, education, and supportive communities—especially in the world of dance, where discipline and passion can become powerful lifelines.

At its heart, Ricky’s Fund is rooted in the belief that dance can be a guiding force, offering identity, purpose, and hope. The organization provides scholarships to aspiring dancers, helping them access educational and professional opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. Whether it’s a young dancer dreaming of college-level training or a pre-professional artist needing support to stay the course, Ricky’s Fund is there to ensure financial limitations never stand in the way of talent and dedication.

Looking ahead, Ricky’s Fund seeks to expand its reach—both in the number of dancers it supports and in the communities it serves. The long-term vision includes building stronger outreach programs, increasing scholarship offerings, and connecting with dancers who may not yet have access to formal dance education.
